I-476 north reopening in Plymouth Meeting after early morning semitruck fire

Two northbound lanes of Interstate 476 at the Pennsylvania Turnpike Northeast Extension in Plymouth Meeting have reopened early Wednesday morning after a tractor-trailer caught fire and temporarily closed the highway.
According to Todd Stieritz with the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety, 911 calls about the started coming in shortly after 3 a.m.
The semitruck, which according to the PA Turnpike Commission was hauling chicken scrap, caught on fire in the E-ZPass lane of the Mid-County Toll Plaza near Exit 20 to I-276 East. Stieritz said by 4 a.m., most the fire was knocked down.
As of 6 a.m., two cash toll lanes had reopened, though the E-ZPass lane remains closed.
Fire crews are still on scene and the investigation remains active, Stieritz said. He added that no one was transported by EMS to the hospital in connection with the incident.
Drivers can take I-276/PA Turnpike or Germantown Pike for an alternative route.
